Prison admissions are\u00a0distinguished according to whether they are new sentences or revocations\u00a0and whether the the offender&#8217;s governing offense is a drug crime or some\u00a0other kind of crime. These graphs are useful for understanding the historical\u00a0trends that contributed to today&#8217;s patterns. There is always a lag of\u00a0several years before NCRP data is available to the general research community\u00a0for analysis. For each graph, there is the original and a &#8220;close\u00a0up&#8221; that eliminates extreme cases to make it easier to see the\u00a0patterns for other states. In some cases, state data are incomplete. \u00a0If information is missing from a graph (or in some cases, if a graph\u00a0is missing) this is because the information is unavailable for that\u00a0state from the NCRP. If a state is not listed, we do not have data\u00a0for it.
