This chapter describes a unifying framework for the Part I linear model and the binary and count models in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ssc.wisc.edu\/~jfrees\/regression\/chapter-11-categorical-dependent-variables\/\">Chapters 11<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ssc.wisc.edu\/~jfrees\/regression\/chapter-12-count-dependent-variables\/\">12<\/a>. Generalized linear models, often known by the acronym GLM, represent an important class of nonlinear regression models that have found extensive use in actuarial practice.
